If I was to say that March is coming in like a lion, I would think you would have to agree. During the day today across the state, some folks will see heavy snow, wind, snow, sleet, some freezing rain, rain, drizzle and thunderstorms. The rain and thunderstorms will be confined to areas of southern and southeastern Wisconsin, while the heavier snow will fall in the northern part of the state. In between the snow and the rain, a mixed bag of wintry weather will fall, with high temperatures in the low 30s.

This month can be very wintry in the Milwaukee area. Milwaukee has experienced major snowstorms and ice storms in March, and low temperatures can still drop below zero during the first three weeks. Spring officially arrives on March 20 this year, but the actual first spring day can be further down the calendar in April or May. The coldest temperature on record for the month occurred on March 1, 1962, when the minimum temperature hit 10 degrees below zero.
