Syracuse, N.Y. Not long after the University of Wisconsin reached the NCAA Final Four in Indianapolis in April 2000, coach Dick Bennett and his Badgers were knocked for how they got there.

Emphasizing hard-nosed defense and grind-it-out, half-court offense, UW played Michigan State to a 19-17 halftime standstill in the teams' national semifinal game. The Spartans went on to win, 53- 41, en route to the NCAA title, but much of the post-game discussion centered on the Badgers.
