Those 13 players made their way into the National Football League via a much more difficult road than the other 40. They finished their college football days, and then sat on draft day by the phone, a phone that would not ring.

So instead of giving up their dreams of playing in the NFL, they got onto that road. It was hardly part of the Interstate highway system with easy on ramps. No, this one was a lot of side streets, a lot of winding country roads, some with slow drivers ahead of them or school buses with those annoying red lights flashing.
