For the first time, the number of students in the Milwaukee Parental Choice program has reached 20,000. Meanwhile, the main roster of Milwaukee Public Schools enrollment has dropped below 80,000, the first time that has happened in many years.

These are yet more signs of ongoing stress at MPS, where the district is closing schools, trimming bus routes and making other cuts. The district surely needs to be more cost-conscious.
