Today's Tmj4 Weather Plus; Weather Service Staff Deserves Acknowledgment

Summary

During the first half of 2008 in southeast Wisconsin, we have been very busy telling our viewers about major winter storms, tornado warnings, severe thunderstorm warnings and flood warnings. The weather pattern has been very active across southern Wisconsin, northern Illinois and the eastern sections of Iowa and Minnesota following a moderate La Nina pattern in the central Pacific Ocean. The warnings are meant to give the viewing public information and a lead time to prepare for the bad weather, ranging from 10 to 20 minutes for tornadoes to many hours for winter storms.

While we get a lot of compliments and thank-you comments since we are so recognizable, the folks at the National Weather Service office in Sullivan, where these warnings originate, are sometimes forgotten. The staff at the Weather Service office that covers southeast Wisconsin is one of the finest in the country -- always on top of the severe weather situation. They get warnings and advisories out promptly and effectively, and also provide valuable climate information that is at times used in this column.
