It was just a week ago that the heat wave broke after six days in a row with high temperatures of 90 degrees or above. Since then, the temperatures have been much more comfortable, helped along by winds blowing in off of Lake Michigan. Today will be no exception as our winds will be increasing out of the northeast. Temperatures will stay in the low to mid-70s close to the lake today and only in the low 70s on Friday. Warmer weather will move in over the weekend.

We frequently are asked by students as to the extent that mathematics is used in meteorology. It is unfortunate that many students and, in fact, adults think of math as some sort of horrible subject that is meant to torture people. Math is used by scientist to help understand and explain different physical processes. It can help to make the subject easier to understand.
