Today's Tmj4 Weather Plus; Tornado Swarm Hit 2 Years Ago Today

Summary

The pleasant, dry weather pattern from Friday will turn quickly cloudy, cooler and more humid with a chance for showers and thunderstorms this weekend. A low pressure system from the central Rocky Mountains will drag another warm front toward Wisconsin today, and that will begin to trigger showers and thunderstorms across the state. Those thunderstorms will bring needed rainfall to many parts of the dry state, especially in the south-central regions.

Thunderstorms were also around on Aug. 18, 2005, and that complex of thunderstorms developed 27 tornadoes, a record for one day in Wisconsin. The greatest swarm of tornadoes hit southeast and south- central Wisconsin, with less in the west and northeast parts of the state. Six small tornadoes touched down in Jefferson County, and three tornadoes in Dane County. The tornado in Dane County that started near Oregon and ended in Jefferson County with a path through Stoughton was the biggest and most deadly.
