Summary


Bob Paulson, who manages a payday loan store in a strip mall on S. 27th St., improbably says he enjoys greeting customers, who smile and wave back. Not that Paulson isn't friendly. What's improbable is that people looking for fast cash would be in a smiling, waving mood.

Even Paulson concedes it isn't a cheery occasion. His industry's critics claim it's downright predatory. Their argument boils down to this: Payday borrowers are so uninformed about money that many don't realize they'll be trapped forever in intentionally unpayable debts. Critics hope Wisconsin will ban such misery.
